Verses to Use while Soul Winning

Knock, knock… Armed with the King James Bible and a handful of tracts, I waited at the door hoping no one would answer. It was my first time soul winning with the teen group. Having begun mid year, I missed the witnessing workshop all the others received. Had I memorized verses? No, but I had a plan. If I could remember to turn to Romans 3:23 I would be all set.

In the margin by each verse, I wrote the reference for the next verse. In this manner I could explain the whole Gospel while only remembering the first verse. Writing notes in the margin of your Bible or having a “cheat sheet” for sharing the Gospel is a good start. You should not need these aids for long; developing your ability to share the Gospel is part of maturing as a Christian. Scripture memorization is key to becoming a confident soul-winner.

It had been a long day of plowing with a newly hired employee at my job. As we began talking about God, I learned that he had been raised Roman Catholic but later converted to Mormonism. The Scripture I labored to memorize in Bible college became an invaluable resource to cut through his confusion. Had I not worked to memorize verses this and many other witnessing opportunities would have been missed.

You need to memorize Scripture to be an effective soul winner. Here is a proven way to memorize verses:

• Write the verse on the front of an index card and the reference on the back.
• Keep the index cards in a convenient place to work on memorizing.
• Spend five minutes each morning and evening reviewing the verse.
• Review previously memorized verses periodically to keep them fresh.
Consistently reviewing the verses will help you far more than an hour of occasional studying.

The key to memorization is repetition. This may seem difficult, but it is time well spent. Here is a list of verses to get you started:

Romans Road to Salvation
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Heaven / Hell / Judgment
John 14:2-3 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Revelation 20:14-15 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Assurance/know that you are saved
1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
John 10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Salvation is through Jesus
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
1 Timothy 2:4-5 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Sin
Luke 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
1 John 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Good Works/Baptism can’t save you
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

Many are not saved
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils?
and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
